It is a good question Michael.
I do not pretend to actually know.

However I do suspect that all of the I.N.D.I.A. allies with Congress, will feel 
that their long, long stint in the 'desert' should 'encourage' them to be 
"collegial" to each other. All bets will of course be off - once Modi falters 
more in the next years and then we shall see. If he does falter, it will be 
interesting to see whether the Advani fortunes are shifted towards other 
parties. The Advanis lost huge amounts of (yes likely purely paper based 
'fictitious' monies - but still) capital base on receipt of the relative 
electoral losses of the BJP.

But another factor is potentially important also.
As we have seen over the last year in Pakistan, it is the USA who is a major 
decisive player in the Indian sub-continental politics. Modi has been playing 
footsie with both the USA and China, while trying to also project India as an 
independent force a la BRICS. This is over-played of course, and at some stage 
will be corrected by reality.
