More news. The President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, has said
anyone who does not accept the Supreme Court ruling is "out of the democratic
game" and will not be able to participate in future elections.
Rodriguez also announced that the Law on Political Parties will be reformed to
ban "‘fascists" from running - which in the government's eyes is pretty much
the entire opposition.
As I warned, the Supreme Court manoeuvre was never about clarifying the vote,
it was about delaying the publication of the results and setting the legal
basis to go after anyone and everyone who questions the the CNE and asks that
it (as well as other state institutions) abide by the law.

Jorge Rodríguez warns that anyone who does not comply with the TSJ ruling ‘is
out of the democratic game’.
By El Impulso- 22 August, 202411
Jorge Rodríguez, who holds the presidency of the National Assembly, emphasised
the need to abide by the recent ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ)
that upholds the election results of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
According to Rodríguez, failure to comply with this decision will result in
exclusion from the ‘democratic game’.
‘If they want to enter the democratic game, the first thing they have to do is
abide by this ruling. Whoever does not abide by this ruling is out of the
democratic game, whoever does not abide by this ruling is in contempt of
court,’ Rodríguez said in a statement.
The Assembly president also warned that those who ignore this ruling will not
be able to register candidacies for the elections of deputies, governors or
mayors, as the new Law of Political Parties will prohibit it. ‘It is mandatory,
it is unequivocal. We all have to abide by it. It is obligatory,’ he stressed.
Rodríguez described the TSJ ruling as an ‘act of wisdom’ and a necessary
measure for the defence of peace and stability in the country. This
pronouncement follows the decision of the Electoral Chamber of the TSJ, which
validated the results of the 28 July presidential election announced by the
CNE, where Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner for the 2025-2031 term.
The president of the TSJ, Caryslia Rodríguez, confirmed that the CNE's results
are backed by the minutes of the voting machines and fully coincide with the
databases. ‘The results issued by the CNE are unobjectionably certified and
validated,’ she concluded.
Rodríguez announces reform of the Political Parties Law
Jorge Rodríguez announced an imminent reform to the Law on Political Parties,
Public Meetings and Demonstrations. The main objective of this amendment is to
prevent so-called ‘fascists’ from running for public office in Venezuela,
especially with a view to the parliamentary and regional elections scheduled
for 2025.
Rodríguez defined ‘fascists’ as those who promote coups, advocate foreign
intervention or incite violence, including political crimes. He also mentioned
that those who do not abide by the recent Supreme Court ruling, which validates
the results of the 28 July elections, will also be considered in this category.
The president of the legislature did not specify a timetable for the
implementation of these legal changes, leaving open the possibility of future
debates on the issue.
