That's not what I understand the moderator's job to be. The list members
should set standards. Personally, I had plans before 10/7 of running a
chatbot/LLM on the marxmail archives to see if it provided a way to mine our
tens of thousands of email messages for summary information. I think the MIA
would also be interesting to process.

In both of those examples, however, we mostly know where the information is
coming from. I write "mostly" because every non-trivial use that I have made
of a large-language model tool has contained at least one hallucination:
Something wrong pops out among the correctly summarized information. When I
studied so-called neural networks, the state of the art wasn't able to track
down where erroneous outputs even came from or why. There's been a lot of
progress in 7 years, but AI is still not a reliable tool. That does not mean
it's dangerous or even useless. It's much less reliable than Wikipedia, which
has standards for citing work.

The problem with using an AI app to answer questions is (1) it infrequently
spews nonsense that will appear real to someone who is ignorant of the answer,
which is most people who ask a question, and (2) the ones that I used to date
don't reference their claims. So, I would not cite it but use it as a
secondary source to try and locate the primary source if it turns up something
novel or interesting even if it sometimes ends up being wrong.

Name calling, punching down, harassment, poor sourcing, etc. are most of our
moderating work. AI suffers from poor sourcing but is not high on my list of
problems that we need to deal with just yet. But by all means, however, let's
discuss the standards for dealing with AI, which increasingly will infect our
information sources without even the notice that Gojko gave to everybody.
