I can't see how we know Hezbollah's military capacity. What is clear is that Israel has had an enormous victory at the level of operations and tactics.
Israel's weakness remains and indeed deepens at the level of Vision/Strategy. Every single victory persuades more layers of the Arab Nation that there can be no co-existence with Israel. It is simply not safe for the Arabs to allow the status quo -where Israel, with unlimited US backing, can Lord it over the Arab Nation. It is this that Deutscher was referring to when he warned the Israeli leadership they could "victory themselves to death". Operational and tactical victories could produce strategic defeat. I have lived long enough to recall my old geography teacher speak with approval of the Kibbutzim. I recall seeing in the County Cinema (Omagh) a documentary of how Israel made the desert bloom. All's changed, changed utterly since the first flush of propaganda which depicted the Israelis as brave pioneers taking over from the lazy feckless Arabs, who just wanted to wander around the desert on their camels instead of making it bloom. Now I see the torturers & the assassins who have ascended from the dungeons, cellars & basements to take the reins of office before the public. netanyahu's performance at the UN reveals to all what happens when the practitioners of the dirty business of colonial conquest mount up from running the dungeons unto the world stage.
