The American Empire and our system is in a decline relative to what the BRICS are about. Are there problems among them? For sure. Do they have their faults? Absolutely. This is not good and bad, but it is a radical alteration. And if we continue as a nation to pretend it isn’t happening or it isn’t important, we will continue to make big strategic mistakes, not the least of which is to bring us into a war kind of situation that people are already sensing might be in the air. What is this "as a nation" stuff?! The U.S. capitalist ruling class is of course determined to keep its imperial advantages. So when Wolff talks about "big strategic mistakes," he paints a picture of a class-united national U.S. interest. He implies here and no doubt states elsewhere that U.S. workers need to set the U.S. imperialists right. Ha! Then Wolff takes his false line of reasoning out to war. The concept is that the U.S. imperialists are preparing for war and U.S. workers should teach them it is a "mistake." He completely covers up for China's drive to redivide world markets, raw materials, and investment outlets. This must be at the expense of those who hold those outlets. The drive to war is an objective antagonism. Wolff's "big strategic mistake" chatter is a block to U.S. workers confronting the reality: there will be war, perhaps postponed briefly, but it will happen until there is revolution. Conversely, Patrick Bond stated the reality of BRICS regarding Palestine, for example: Nine out of the 10 BRICS countries have very profitable relationships, like South Africa, number one coal exporter to Israel, and China and India having companies that run the Haifa Port, you could turn those off and really put pressure on Israel if they really had the guts.
