Daher's is the best analysis of the conflicting forces and uncertain outlook in Syria following Assad’s downfall which has yet appeared on the list. Worth noting is his unequivocal defence of Kurdish self-determination in the autonomous northeast region of Rojava (AANES) led by the PYG, which he critically supports.
At present, it appears that the collapse of the old regime is less likely to unleash a new Arab Spring in the region than that a Syrian coalition government composed of the opposition and ex-Assadists will align itself with the US, Israel, Turkey and the Arab leaderships against the aspirations of the Palestinians, Kurds, and other peoples of the region. This report in the Times of Israel points in this direction though it undoubtedly exaggerates the opportunistic expressions by some opposition figures of their “love for the Jewish state” ( https://www.timesofisrael.com/syria-rebels-appear-to-credit-israeli-strikes-on-hezbollah-with-aiding-shock-advance/ ) Meanwhile, the Syrian masses now celebrating in the streets have as yet shown no inclination to self-organize in defence of their interests against the HTS and FSA.
