This is no reflection on the moderators of the list but even I feel
inhibited to post to the list because of a preponderance of discussion of
geopolitics. I'm not saying geopolitics is unimportant but the extent to
which discussions on an email list are going to affect events in, say Syria
is miniscule in proportion to the dominant attention paid to it by list
subscribers. One doesn't have to be a woman to be put off by conversations
whose connections to one's everyday life is abstract.

When I do post to the list, I tend to get one or two agreeable replies and
from time to time a condescending one. What I conclude from that is that
only less than half a dozen members of this list are interested in what I
have to say. It would be more fruitful to carry on private
conversations with those few.

Now maybe this is my fault because I am inarticulate and only interested in
things no one else is interested in. But people might also consider it as
an indicator of why there are so few women on this list.

Cheers,

Tom Walker (Sandwichman)
