This is late reply or comment to some comments that I did not read earlier. Maybe reason why Socialism inspired by Stalin or so called socialism under Stalin was unable to get attraction on the West ( it had a lot of attraction on the West before WWII and some years after) has something that finally true about life in USSR become accessible. When we are talking about effective propaganda we forgot propaganda by Soviet Union. When the facts that it was much more dangerous to be a leftist under Stalin than in those Western capitalist countries indicated that something was wrong with that system. I have already talked about how the leaders of the Yugoslav Communist Party ended up with Stalin, when they fled Yugoslavia, where their party was illegal and they were exposed to arrest, and sought salvation in the Soviet Union and the communist paradise that awaited them there. They did not even dreamed that it would be better for them if they ended up in the prisons of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. At least they would stay alive there. Well, that truth slowly made its way to the West, so that also reduced the appeal of that system under Stalin, even though many thought that it was all imperialist propaganda, and many still think so today. No point arguing with them.
