I actually thought that the BSW's 5% was rather respectable, given that it was a new formation. It didn't get over the parliamentary threshold, but only by the slimmest of margins. 5% is not nothing. By the way, I wouldn't describe it as a "split" from Die Linke. True, Sahra Wagenknecht was a leading memeber of Die LInke, but it's a differnt political formation. It's a bit like saying that Mussolini's fascisti were a split from the PSI: they were, but they were also obviulsy *more* than that. I'd characterise the BSW as a qualitatively new force in German politics. I'd don't have time to say more about the German elections right now, but here are two interesting commentaries: <https://adamtooze.substack.com/p/chartbook-356-deutschland-2025-a> and <https://averypublicsociologist.blogspot.com/2025/02/the-radicalisation-of-young-women.html>. If there's someone on the list actually in Germany, it'd be interesting to heartheir thoughts. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
