Good morning Patrick: Yes - I sincerely do look forward to talking this over with you - if we can get the dates right this time!
Look, I think it does likely fit within that paradigm you suggest. In another version of this discussion at this list some years back - I had expressed some puzzlement. Then Walter Daum had kindly sent me some suggested reading including Marini (once more thank you Walter). I went thru' this then - but I will confess that I need to be more focused on it. However I fear that my feeling at the end of a preliminary foray, was the same as it had been before. Namely: In what specific ways was this framework better than the framework offered by Lenin and M.N.Roy in the Supplementary Theses of the early Comintern? While the terminology sort of differs, as far as I recall the South American writers following Marini - certainly also use the terms 'national' and 'comprador' bourgeoisie. If the substance of any benefit of the Marini framework lies in the scope of a relative 'freedom' that it allows the national bourgeoisie of the 'sub-imperialist' states to exercise a certain sway and profit-making...? That also is not to my mind - very different from the versions offered by M.N.Roy and Stalin. I hope you understand my not using the names Zinoviev and all others who led the Comintern after Lenin's death and Roy's exclusion (maybe a part will be more clear with an as yet unfulfilled reply to Marv G.) Yes I know a lot of negative clauses with ' not 's sprinkled in there. Thus perhaps I should summarise by saying ultimately I cannot see much daylight between Lenin-Roy and Marini formulations. Maybe I simply have simply not plumbed the depths of Marini. I am willing to do so under your baton if directed to key differences. I look forward to a fruitful May.
