thank you, John --- what you say is very convincing --- The fact that the
charge of anti-semitism is a smokescreen to make criticism of Israel
VERBOTIN should not as you say blind us to the fact that there IS serious
anti-semitism in the population --- and also (here is the very sad part)
that the horrible behavior of the Israeli government gives the nationalists
fighting back "permission" to become anti-semites --

LOOK -- there were African Americans who adopted the racism of the Nation
of Islam

there were feminist separatists who believed that men were inherently
sexist and that a society without men (remember Valerie Solanis and her
"SCUM" manifesto??) ----

so the fact that some anti-ISRAEL nationalism becomes anti-semitism should
not surprise us --

JUST as we have to battle black anti-white bigotry (which Malcolm X freed
himself from before he was killed), etc. etc. we have to agree that
anti-semitism is alive and well and dangerous --- even as we very strongly
argue that opposing Israeli apartheid and genocide is NOT anti-semitism.

A tough challenge to be sure
