Charles, my sense of the "end phase of capitalism" has to do with environmental catastrophe ---
-- on a (very simple-minded level) since the EARTH is finite, an infinite expansion of economic activity (= economic growth based on the "accumulation of capital" which is the key dynamic of capitalism discovered and emphasized by Marx) is impossible --- -- the changes in the environment caused by --- in the short run global warming (which conceivably could lead to the escape of enough methane from the melting permafrost to kill all oxygen-breathing creatures but e3ven if not ... ) will produce enough changes in the world to make a "capitalist free-market or controlled market" system impossible --- we will either have a totally fascistic controlling government such as depicted in Orwell's 1984 or a Hobbesian world of all against all or --- if we are VERY LUCKY --- a truly democratic socialism where we all "pull together" --- When Rosa Luxembourg predicted "socialism or barbarism," I think she meant the kind of fascist government I am referring to. SO Charles is right --- no matter how weak we (supposedly "capitalism's grave - diggers") are, capitalism as we know it now is totally doomed. The "Socialism with Chinese characteristics" (translation -- China's capitalism run by the self-recreating Chinese "communist" Party) version seems much more likely to "survive" than the American version --- but who knows --- maybe some parts of the world (Scandanavia??) will stumble towards a post-global warming "socialism" --- For myself, I refuse to believe things will be as bad as they probably will be and want to just "keep trying" to make things better --- Find me a really good revolutionary socialist organization to support, I just might do it (the last organization I wanted to be part of was pre-split (= pre 1969) SDS --- otherwise, I want to be part of the broad coalition that resists Trumo's fascism ... SO IT GOES ....
