Why doesn't the Democratic party fight Trump populism with economic populism?
As commentator Sonali Kolhatkar (
https://otherwords.org/progressive-economic-populism-is-a-winning-issue/ ) put
it, "The re-election of Donald Trump reignited a simmering feud between the
progressive and centrist wings of the Democratic Party. While centrists have
cautioned against alienating 'moderate' voters, progressives have urged the
party to rally around universal health care, raising wages, and other populist
measures."

The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) responded! At the end of April, it
issued a ten-point " New Affordability Agenda (
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JTJG5viBybX-b_7-W7b6pdG-P_uY0ISZ7nCaQfaIyfY/
)." Each point lists one or two caucus members who will introduce a bill.

Medicare for All? The Agenda gives it first place in the introduction! "The CPC
is committed to championing structural changes, including creating a path to
universal healthcare with proposals to expand Medicare coverage and benefits to
eventually cover everyone under a Medicare For All system,..." *But not one of
the ten points mentions Medicare for All.* The only agenda point related to
health care is, "Prescription drugs people can afford."

The progressive caucus of the Democratic party won't campaign on Medicare for
All. Worse, the caucus misleads by combining chatter for single payer in the
introduction with exclusion of it from the ten points of action.

My observation is late, five weeks after the caucus published the agenda. By
way of an excuse, I have not found it among the chatter-tariat who have
heralded the agenda.
