Well John O’Brien - perhaps it is rare to see me talk about matters other than Stalin - but actually I was. The tortured reasoning of the Papal Encyclicals has served for centuries to delude many thoughtful but un-probing “intellectuals”. If one wishes ot understand them, one had better see what they look at. The 1891 one “Rerum Novarum” [subtitled On Capital and Labour] had an enormous impact on intellectuals. Unlikely to be quite the same now, but - perhaps more than a reflexive anti-Stalinist like yourself might want. BTW - without going back to the Stalin - Trotsky thing, I am very far from a religious soul… even to your astonishment, when considering Stalin. H
