I should have qualified that statement. I did not name the KKE specifically, 
but my comment was aimed at it and all the other left-wing parties outside of 
New Democracy, Syriza, and PASOK.

The KKE stands apart because of its historic ties to the trade unions and 
greater mass appeal. It won approx. 7% or 400,000 votes of the 5.2 million 
votes cast in the last Greek election, far outdistancing all the other 
left-wing and green parties combined. Antarsya, the Communist Party of Greece 
(Marxist Leninist) and the Marxist Leninist Communist Party of Greece each 
received less than 1/3 of 1% of the popular vote.

So while the KKE has also been on the sidelines of Greek political life for 
decades,  I agree it is misleading to lump it together with the others as a 
"fringe" party.
