The conditions of accumulation are precisely what gives rise to contending political fractions within the ruling class. Their particular interests are represented in the executive and other arms of the state apparatus by the traditional governing parties, typically one liberal and the other conservative whose differences usually turn on issues relating to state taxation and spending. Unlike perhaps the 19th century Bonapartes, Trump's policies in the 21st have generally aligned with those of his wealthy conservative donors in the Republican party, in particular those connected to the high tech and energy industries. Though some have become increasingly frustrated with the inflationary effects of tariffs and the war in Iran as well as his gratuitous baiting of US allies, there is no evidence that Trump is acting autonomously from the conservative bourgeoisie which he represents. He is not the first president who has provoked grumbling and in some cases revolt within their party establishments because of their inept handling of certain domestic and foreign policy issues.
