The attack on DSA by this writer (organization?) is unfair -- Stalinism is what destroyed the attempt of the SOVIET UNION to build socialism --- The UIkrainiian famine during the wave of collectivization was a direct result of Stalinism --- I know that wasn't the POLICY (famine) but the authoritarian creation of the collective farms produced the famine --- the murders of all the Old Bolsheviks left the Soviet Union almost defenseless against the Nazi onslaught -- the ability of the SOviet Union to stop the Nazi Advance at the gates of Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad was not due to Stalin's great leadership but to the fact that the Soviet people refused to give up --- (though unfortunately, lots of Ukrainians switched sides --- especially when it came to murdering Jews)
The Soviet Union defeated the Nazis despite Stalin, not because of him --- DSA is right to condemn Stalinism --- that is not "anti-communism" --- (and I don't think DSA used the term communism to describe what they are against --- but I could be wrong there -- I haven't read everything they say) (I speak as someone who grew up "pro-Soviet" until events like the suppression of Hungary in 1956 and Khrushchev's speech changed my knowledge ....)
