Thanks for tracking down the error, being tenacious with the  
investigation :-)

Good to know I wasn't just slowly going insane or had those ever- 
present gremlins in the server.

Would it be useful to create a test script for this bug for the Mason  
distribution that (perhaps) soft-fails for now (i.e. doesn't actually  
prevent make test / make install from succeeding) but would serve as  
a sign-post to check against when Perl is cleaned up?

And if so, I might be able to re-factor my example into a test module  
suitable for the Mason source tree /t/ area. Please let me know if  
there's anything I can do to be of help (if this would be helpful in  
the first place).
