two quick bits of advice:

  - upgrade your kernel to the latest (2.2.16 i think)
    there's a bug in your kernel whereby packet fragments
    can get through the packet filter (if any) unscathed

  - use "make xconfig" instead of "make menconfig"
    (it's easier to read the help sections, that way)
