I have set up ip masquerading and dhcp on mandrake 7.1 to share my cable
internet connection. I have 2 NICs in the linux box, which is a pentium pro
200 with 32mb ram. One NIC is connected to the cable modem and the other to
a hub which other computers running Windows 2000 are connected to. I set up
the system according to the dhcp and ip masquerading how-tos. Most things
work, except for 2 major problems.
The first problem is when I watch live video streams on Windows Media
Player, I will get disconnected after a few minutes. This does not happen
previously when I use a direct connection on the Windows 2000 machine.
Secondly, when I download large files (30 to 200 mb), the downloading always
hang at a particular location in the same file and could not complete. I am
downloading the files via http and the file happens to reside in a local
server, so I can achieve download speeds of 200-300 kBps.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
