Greetings,

I have a RedHat 6.2 router connected to a comcast@home cable modem.
After setting up the network and enabling ipchains, I was able to ping
the Internet and resolve domains from the internal network. However,
when I tried to browse the web I received "Connected: waiting for reply"
and nothing else. When I tried telnet or ftp, I could enter a username
and password, but never received a prompt. Everything from the router
worked fine.

The internal network has Solaris, Linux and Windows (which the world be
better off without). All results were the same on all three boxes.

I set totally permissive ipchains which made no difference. I even used
Coyote Linux which has a wonderfully simple setup and is preconfigured
to work as a router to an @home cable modem (among others). The same
problem exists.

I then logged all ipchains on the router and an internal machine. It
appears to me that the internal machine is receiving the packets but for
some reason the application (browser, telnet, ftp, ssh) does not receive
any but the initial connection. MTU settings are at 1500.

Searching the archives and usenet have yielded no solutions.

Any suggestions?

Carlos Hanson
