you can definitely upgrade just the kernel with such a
partition. remember that kernels usually fit on a floppy.
but a redhat upgrade is a much bigger beasty. you might
be able to fit it but i wouldn't count on it.

dunno. what version of the kernel does redhat 5.1 come with?
if it's a 2.2.x kernel, then masquerading will be the same.
if it's 2.0.x, i have no idea. do your scripts use ipchains
or ipfwadm? if it's ipchains, you're in luck. if it's
ipfwadm, you'll have to use wrapper scripts or rewrite your
scripts to use ipchains.
