Thanks for the pointer. I tried compiling the 2.4.14 kernel source, and odly
enough, it went fine. I then tried applying the iptables patches as listed
below, and magically it worked this time.

I'm not saying that I've got IP-Masquerading working yet (looks like I
forgot to compile into the kernel the eth0 module :-o which may limit its
usability a little)
but at least I've got past the initial steps.
