Hello Alex,
>However, I have this issue where after an arbitrary period of time >(sometimes hours, sometimes a few days) the ip masquerading halts and will >not work again, until the machine is rebooted.
What do you mean by "halts"? Can you still log into the MASQ server via the CONSOLE or via the network by TELNET/SSH? Basically, does just the NAT aspect of the machine break or is the whole machine crashed?
If it's just the NAT breaking, where in Section 5 of the IPMASQ howto does the server break? This will help us track things down.
If it's the WHOLE machine crashing, look in the /var/log/messages file after you reboot the machine. In there, as the very end, you'll see all the new entries from the machine booting back up. What's BEFORE all that? Anything weird?
Ps. what's your machine details?
- HW (CPU, RAM, # of NICs)
- kernel version (run "uname -a")
- iptables version (run "iptables -V")
- which IPMASQ ruleset you running? Your own? One from the MASQ howto? Any speciall additions to it?
