This may have been asked a 100 times but here is 101. I have 2 Win98 machines setup as network addresses 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 and my Linux box as 192.168.1.1. I am using RedHat 5.2. At first I was using the ifup ppp0 and ifdown ppp0 to connect and disconnect from the internet, but I will get a message 9 out of ten times saying ppp not replacing existing default route to eth0 [0.0.0.0]. Then my name servers are not seen and I can not access the Internet on the two 98 machines or the Linux machine.
