Hi everyone,

Ever since I've implemented a strong firewall / masquerade ruleset
fetching mail using POP3 has become much slower. When I pull my mail up
from the server it takes about 5 minutes to retrieve 30 or so messages
..... I think this could be faster.

The machine is a pentium 90 / 24MB / Ultra SCSI (enough space anyway).
LAN is 10Mb 10BASE-T. It doesn't matter if I'm the only one retrieving
mail or if there are more people ding this.

On my local net everything is open, X connects, IMAP4 and so on are all
nice and fast.
I already tried using another POP3 daemon but that didn't help.

Local machines are using Win98 & Outlook98 or RedHat 5.2 & Fetchmail or
Solaris 2.6 & fetchmail.

The logs show nothing weird.

Any help is appreciated.

                                Bas
