About three weeks ago we set up a Linux box to do
masquerading, and to act as our corporate firewall for
the company. All of our applications seem to work fine
except Oracle. We use Oracle applications behind our
firewall (Linux box) to connect to an Oracle server on
the on the other side. We can make the initial
connection and everything seems to work fine. When the
application is not being used for more than 10 minutes
or so, we get the following error from the Oracle
application: Session attached to some other process,
can not switch session, and we loose connectivity from
the app to the server. When the application is
restarted, everything once again will work fine, until
the application is left idle. I thought this was some
kind of TCP timeout on the Linux box, so I added the
following command to the firewall script: ipchains -M
-S 480 480 0
This did not seem to make a differance. Any help will
be greatly appreciated.
We are running Redhat 5.2 with an updated kernel,
version 2.2.5 and are using ipchains to set up the
firewall policies.
