Yes, you can use any IP addresses you want, behind your private LAN.
After all, they are private. The only stipulation is that you should
configure your firewall so that it tries very hard not to leak those IP
addresses out of your local network, usually through an appropriate
output filter on the external interface.
The only trouble you'll run into is if you attempt to connect through
your external network to the same set of IP addresses elsewhere. If
your use, say, 130.169.48.*, and you try to connect to one of your
company's systems, from your local LAN, and that system happens to have
an IP address in the same range, the connection will fail, because the
local LAN clients will think that the remote IP is actually on their
local network, and won't even try to send through the gateway.

Perhaps you're missing something during the reconfigure. It really
should work, except in the scenario I describe above.
