I am currently running a masqing box on a Pentium 75 with 16MB ram, and a
64MB swap partition. Before we hooked my dad's computer up behind the
gateway, it downloaded at 75KB once (should go faster). Anyways, after I
setup his computer behind the gateway, it only downloads a maximum of
30KB/sec. Downloading pages is noticably slower as well.
Some guy recommended I try to do a 'route add default eth0'. He figured it
took long because the system doesn't know where to default it to. When I do
that, my dad's computer won't work behind the gateway. I then did a route
delete default eth0, and then the box being masqed worked again. I did a
route add default gw eth0 and that resulted in:
eth0: Unknown Host
or something down that line.
I'm looking for ways to speed this connection up. I have one computer behind
it and we'll have three behind it at the end.
Thanks
kevin
