I followed the Masq. how-to and got setup. I'm connected with Linux
right now and sending email with Win98. Impressive since I'm new to
this.(!)
I wanted to implement some security and read section 6.4 and 6.5
"Stronger IP Firewall". Both sections have the same lead in text and
say
"NOTE: If you get a dynamically assigned tcp/ip address from
your ISP ... carefully read and un-comment out the properly lines in
the 'Dynamic PPP IP fetch' section below."
That sentence doesn't read quite right and I think there's a typo.
But, my problem is that the IPFWADM sample has the section referred to,
but the IPCHAINS sample doesn't. I'm using IPCHAINS and I'm connected
PPP with dynamic IP address.
Was it an error to repeat the PPP note to section 6.5? or an error to
omit the "dynamic PPP IP fetch" section in 6.5? My question is,
should I be able to copy the relevant script code to IPCHAINS and
expect it to work?
When I ran into this I didn't care. I thought I'd read the IP-Chains
how-to. After reading that, I'm back. <ouch>. Or does anyone know a
good front end to this that handles PPP users and would be useful for a
newbie?
