My problem stems from the fact that IP-Masqueing works too smoothly, and
that Windows98 can't be configured to do something similar. I need to be
able to boot to either OS on the gateway without changing the 'client'
settings, so I need to 'dumb-down' linux to act as a wingate-style proxy.
Now, when Internet Explorer on the client has proxy information and ports
set, it can't use linux as a gateway. Without the proxy setup it
can't work with win98 as a gateway.
My current setup is as follows.
Linux/Win98 (gateway) box Ethernet 192.168.1.1
PPP dynamic
Win98 ('client') Ethernet 192.168.1.2
gateway set to 192.168.1.1
DNS set to ISP's DNSs
'Proxy' settings to 192.168.1.1, various ports
Is there any way, using IP-Masqueing, or general routing commands, to get
Linux to accept these 'proxy-style' requests for internet info? (WWW is
crucial, but FTP, IRC, News, and RealAudio would be nice.)
P.S. I did read the HowTos, the man pages, etc., and if the info. was
there I was too inexperienced to know what to do with it. I don't mind
RTFM, but if this is what you plan to tell me, please tell me what FM, and
give me some hints... :)
Thanks,
David
