Why don't just use SQUID proxy server from squid.nlanr.net on the Linux side
because it would take of the proxy settings in Internet Explorer while you'd
still be able to use other neat services like TELNET, FTP, IRC and others.
To my opinion, SOCKS for Linux is awkward and does not work as well as SQUID
does. At least, that is my recommendation...
Ciao!!!
