Greetings all,
Executive summary:
Configuration:
Linux 2.1.116 with bigphysarea patch
ip masquerading
2 ne2000 ISA ethernet cards
eth0 obtains configuration from dhcpcd
eth1 obtains configuration from script
Problem:
dhcpcd fails to assign obtained address
Specifics:
I just migrated from 2.0.35 to 2.1.116 (and back down again) to fool
around with some of the video for linux stuff found in the developmental
kernels. The particular thing I'm playing around with, a zoran frame
grabber driver (http://www.polyware.nl/~middelin/En/hobbies.html), also
required the bigphysarea patch Dhcpcd seems to be the primary source of
difficulty with the following syslog entry left for me to puzzle over :
Nov 9 05:31:38 dhcpcd[117]: ioctl SIOCSIFBRDADDR (ifConfig): Cannot
assign requested address
A working syslog entry looks something like this :
Nov 9 06:27:41 dhcpcd[88]: assigned IP address: 10.1.10.6
Nov 9 06:27:41 dhcpcd[88]: assigned subnetmask: 255.255.248.0
Nov 9 06:27:41 dhcpcd[88]: assigned broadcast address: 10.1.8.255
Nov 9 06:27:41 dhcpcd[88]: got in BOUND state
Nov 9 06:35:46 init: Switching to runlevel: 6
It would appear that 2.1.116 finds something contintious with the
boradcast address; however, I believe the problem to be related to
something more fundamental about the way 2.1.116 handles network
configuration (from the ifconfig reference from the dhcpcd log entry).
I checked linuxhq and a few other places for things that needed to be
upgraded when transitioning from 2.0.x to 2.1.x and everything seems to
be in order.
If I'm missing something completely obvious, I'de really appreciate it
if someone would point it out to me.
As always, thanks in advance.
