Thanks for the reply.
Here's what I found, but I can't explain it.
The winnt4.0 box with DHCP appears to be set
up correctly with the correct DNS and gateway
addresses.(this I think I understand).
The win95 machines work normally when the ip is
assigned manually, rather than by DHCP. When
changed over to DHCP, the default gateway on the
win95 machine is still displayed in the setup
for the adapter but is not registered or issued.
winipcfg shows no default gateway when using
DHCP.(this I don't understand) If I issue the
command
route add 0.0.0.0 MASK 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.45
on the win95 box, everything works normally.
192.168.1.45 is the address of the Linux
ipmasqing machine. winipcfg shows the gateway
correctly after adding the route.
So, my questions now are:
Why isn't the default gateway added when
DHCP is used? (Is the default gw supposed to
be sent along with the ip address from the DHCP
server?)
And, what's the best way to add the route to
the win95 boxes to make it permanent?
thanks,
