Hello all,
I have a strange problem on my Slackware 3.2 system, running a 2.0.34
kernal. After about 2 hours of standard activity, and without any
precipitating actions, my machine will suddenly 'forget' Where it's traffic
is supposed to originate from. See below:
XXXX:~$ netstat -M
IP masquerading entries
prot expire source destination ports
tcp 14:53.70 192.168.1.4 localhost 2660 -> telnet (2660)
tcp 9:24.47 192.168.1.2 scuzzlebutt.XXX.com 1034 -> 21234 (62405)
udp 4:58.02 192.168.1.2 icq.mirabilis.com 1313 -> 4000 (61601)
udp 4:41.17 192.168.1.2 icq.mirabilis.com 1026 -> 4000 (61871)
udp 4:07.08 192.168.1.4 ns.XXX.com netbios-ns -> domain
(61071)
This is after I did a telnet to localhost. As you can see, Masquerading
'thinks' that it is originating from one of the machines behind the masq'd
firewall. When this occurs, the machine cannot initiate any outbound
traffic from itself. It will serve web pages, and accept mail, but it will
not start any network traffic. It will also Masq without problems. The
telnet session listed above will eventually timeout, as will any telnets
from that machine. The only 'fix' I've found for this is to reboot the
computer. I've replaced just about every piece of hardware in this
computer (486 DX2/66 with 16 MB of RAM 1 SMC NIC and one NE2000 Compatable
NIC, Video card, and no other cards), and it's starting to drive me nuts!
Any ideas?
