Hi,
I have reading the mail archives and have not seen this issue
addressed recently.
I'm currently using kernel 2.0.34 with all the items needed for
ipmasq. installed. I have never had a problem with setting up
ipmasquering because of the great howto and faq.
I have been using ipmasq for some time with isdn and speed was never
really an issue. However, now that I have cable modem, I am seeing
some big differences in download times with computers behind the
firewall. This is with only using one computer behind the firewall.
The problem is this my downloads speeds from the firewall computer are
consistently twice the speed of the the computer behind the firewall.
Note for these tests I only have one computer behind the firewall and
no one was using the firewall computer at the time.
The question is "Should I expect a big hit in performance with using
ipmasquerading with a fast cable modem"?
Okay the firewall machine can download at 100kB/sec and the computer
behind the firewall can only download at 50Kb/sec.
Any parameters that I can change or tune to speed this up behind the
firewall.
Thanks,
Alan
