A few experiments here:
Recompile the kernel with the following changes:
>CONFIG_IP_MASQUERADE_IPAUTOFW=y
Change to NO
>CONFIG_IP_MASQUERADE_ICMP=y
>CONFIG_IP_TRANSPARENT_PROXY=y
Change to NO
>SMC Ultra ISA card - using smc-ultra driver -> going to cable modem
>SMC8432 Digital DS21040 Tulip using tulip driver going to SMC full
>duplex >hub all card and hub connections have full duplex turned on. I have
>turned full duplex off and get the same result.
Do you have a switch at home? If not, full duplex won't work unless
there is only ONE machine connected to the Linux box's tulip card
with a Cross-over 10BaseT cable. (But, like you mentioned.. this isn't
the problem. But you should be aware of this).
Also.. though you are using NcFTP or whatever, you might be doing PASV
transfers without even knowing it. Look for this setting somewhere in
its configuration. This can make a serious difference.
A few other things to send me if the above recommendations don't
help.
cat /proc/net/dev
lsmod
dmesg
