Looking at the 2009 Annual report for King County Washington EMS - we
get this -

80% of residents near Seattle have received CPR training - many
received it more than 5 years ago

Cardiac arrests receiving bystander CPR has gone up over the last 5
years - I think it is as 30% now - maybe 40%

Bystander CPR was received within 3 minutes on average

Save rates are 50% in King County, versus 5% in other parts of the
country (0% in some areas)

BLS dispatch time is 30 seconds - ALS dispatch time is 3 minutes - WHAT?????

BLS turnout and travel time is 5 minutes on average

ALS turnout and travel time is 8 minutes on average

Age of 80 and greater results in fewer saves - lack of timely CPR also
results in fewer saves

100% of witnessed arrests can be saved with immediate CPR (did I read
that right or am I imaging it?)

King County had 1000 witnessed arrests in 2009

Apparently the police play a tiny role in EMS in King County

I am not sure but I dont think that Seattle FD numbers are included in
this report - the report is basically about the suburban ALS units

-------------------------------

Looking at "cardiac arrest" at Wikipedia - we see that 300,000 die of
sudden cardiac arrest in the USA each year

-------------------------------

The recent NFPA mobilization study says that dispatch and turnout
times for fire / ems is between 2 and 3 minutes nationwide

------------------------------------

Putting this all together - we might be able to say >>>>>>>> speeding
up 911 dispatch might save 300,000 lives annually in the USA - plus
maybe 20,000 car crash victim plus maybe 20,000 murder victims plus
maybe 20,000 suicide victims - ALL TOGETHER - speeding up 911 dispatch
in the USA might save 350,000 people per year
