Radio ops for Boston Harbor Festival - July 4 approx

Just thinking out loud while looking at the map

The tricky part will probably be in communication amongst the safety
boats. Land units go thru this drill every July 4th pretty much. The
difference this year will be - military ships in the Harbor plus Tall
Ships plus Blue Angels. I assume that the fireworks and Esplanade
concert will occur as usual on July 4 - which happens to be a
Wednesday this year.

Maybe the DOD or USCG can set up Nets for the patrol ships. You would
have to give a portable radio to every police, fire, EMS,
harbormaster, DOD, USCG, boat in the Harbor. Since their might be 30
boats - then you probably need 2 Harbor Nets. And if each Harbor net
was repeaterized, that might be useful, although coverage from the
Boston USCG station looks like it is line of sight to all Harbor areas
except maybe up at Rutherford Ave.

The major jurisdictions at play here are - Boston + Cambridge + Logan
Airport + maybe Chelsea + maybe Everett + maybe Somerville + maybe
Winthrop. Plus the feds and State Police. Plus railroads and MBTA and
DOD and maybe even some embassys.

Can you imagine what will happen if a Amtrak police officer on the
Dorchester Street bridge wants to talk to the head of security on a
foreign Tall Ship? Technically it is a simple matter. Patch the
161.295 repeater to whatever freq the Tall Ship is using for security.
In reality - aint never gonna happen.

Can you imagine if anyone wants to talk into a T tunnel? How many
working radio channels are there in the Blue Line under Boston Harbor?
Do T PD radios even work in there? Maybe there are 3 working channels
in the Blue Line Tunnel - Blue Line Ops + T PD + BFD Ch 4. If we want
to reserve those 3 channels for any Blue Line incidents, then we have
lost all fire comms capabilitys in all other T subway lines AFAIK. And
we lost all T PD comms in all other subway tunnels. Are we screwed
yet? Oh yeah - big time! (Unless BFD and T PD have the ability to run
multi different incidents in multi different subway stations at the
same time. Again - technically it seems to be simple. But I dont think
it will ever happen. I have never heard it happen. I have never heard
the capability being attempted nor tested.)

Has anyone ever heard BFD or BPD testing radios in the terminal blds
at Logan Airport? I have not. Boston EMS radios might work in there -
they are always running calls over there.

Are we having fun yet?

PS - if you patch 460.35 + 470.7875 and LOPS3 together - you have now
tied up 3 channels every time you want to send 1 message. You have cut
your message handling capabilitys by 66%.
