I have probably done this several times before - but lets do it again

Thinking about the Boston Marathon

1. we have to assume that the day to day comm systems are sufficient
to handle the regular day to day comms

2. many extra people will be in the area to enjoy the race - public
safety needs are greater than usual

3. it is much too late to do any major changes (or minor changes even)
to the radio infrastructure

4. the only extra comm path that will be Marathon centric will be 1
talkgroup on the State TRs for town to town command post
communications

5. each town or city will have 1 marathon command post - each marathon
command post will have at least 1 portable radio on the Marathon
centric talkgroup

(actually - any hardened comms path is good - the bottom line is -
this is the most critical link in the entire Marathon comms scheme)

before this turns into a huge book - lets just say - there are no
extra channels available to handle a large disaster - or - if the
channels are installed in radios, no one ever uses them - so they wont
get used if a disaster hits - just like the MEMA report said

THEREFORE - all the communications expertise has to be aimed at
keeping the one Marathon centric comm path in operation - so that all
of the marathon command posts can stay in touch with each other

Let me finish with questions.

1. What channels will the National Guard use?
2. What channels will the feds use?
3. What channels will SWAT and EOD use?
4. Can the FedComm channels be used? Are they of any value?
5. How can MEMA, MSP, State EPA, State DOT, Turnpike, media helos,
SWAT helos, medevac helos, etc all talk to each other? THEY CANNOT -
aint gonna happen - it never does - it never will - we are all doomed
6. How will a Natl Guard guy talk to an ambulance? FAWGETABOUTIT
7. How will a EOD guy talk to a Red Cross guy? FAWGETABOUTIT

Maybe they think that they will give everyone portable radios on the
State TRS. That oughta be fun. Bonk city baby.

OK - I feel better now. ....... not really
