I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote this.  The right
solution is to just commit Terminator's fix, and only have one
way.  It's simple, and it fixes all the possible cases - no tab
bar or no menu bar.  More complexity will just cause more trouble.
(That's just my opinion.)

I vote throw out my patch and take Terminator's.
