Well, that does solve the problem....sort of.

I downloaded the latest mrxvt.terminfo from the CVS
repository and installed it (tic mrxvt.terminfo). I then
had to edit my .mrxvtrc file so that it sets the TERM
variable to 'mrxvt'.

With that everything works perfectly on local systems
(though colors in VIM have changed, grr!).

Unfortunately, not a single remote system I use has 'mrxvt'
as a valid value for $TERM. Most I can work around the
problem, however a few I must manually set a new TERM value
every time I login...which could be as often as several dozen
times a day at times.

(As a side note, on the one remote system I installed the
same terminfo file on I had to edit the file and change
'rxvt' to 'mrxvt' on the first line after the comments.
Without doing this mrxvt was still not recognized. The
remote system is running Debian etch.)

I tried recompiling as you suggested, however that didn't
fix either problem.

I can live with the need to hit "Enter" once in every new
window before it is fully useful, however the bug with VIM
will get VERY old VERY fast on systems where I cannot modify
the environment and so must set TERM every time I log in.

Any suggestions which will fix both local and remote
systems? I know it can be done because I used mrxvt for
months on this computer and never saw either issue until
some package changed in the debian archives (no clue if it
was mrxvt or something else).
