Emerge does a lot of vodoo with the terminal. More often than not, this voodoo gets in my way... But I think your problem can be resolved using stty. Try stty dec If that doesn't work, then look at the man page of stty, and figure out the correct code you need to pass it. After that post it here and file a bug report on the Gentoo bugzilla.
