If anyone is interested in a related comment from a non-combatant:

Aside from the lack of utf-8 support, the thing that I find most
annoying about mrxvt is the fact that it doesn't use X resources.
Having ~/.mrxvtrc is fine for the things which I want everywhere, but
desired geometry and fonts change from screen to screen.  Working
around this is a bit of a nuisance which can be avoided by going along
with X and using X resources.
