Hello ,

i'm not sure if your problem was resolved in the mean time. If this is not the 
case the following may help:

plt.axes(axisbg=white, frameon = True)
-> plt.axes([0,0,1,1], axisbg=white, frameon = True)

where the first list descibes 
[left, bottom, width, height] in normalized (0, 1) coordinates of the figure.
