If you are referring to the quantity that is printed as the "Losses (I^2 * Z)" in the output, for each branch it is computed as,

  loss =  (Vf / tap - Vt) ^ 2 / (R + j X)

where Vf and Vt are the complex voltages at the "from" and "to" ends of the branch, R and X are the series resistance and reactance of the branch, and tap is the tap ratio for a transformer (1 otherwise). This should give the losses in the series portion of the pi-model for the branch. It does not include the shunt portions used to model line charging.

hello everybody,
i want to know that which method has been used to find active power loss and reactive power loss in N-R power flow method in matpower?

thanks in advance
