Hi Jubeyer,

MATPOWER does not include a distributed power flow or OPF mechanism to 
implement the approach you describe. The simplest way is to solve it was one 
big system.

And yes, making sure that each island has it’s own reference bus should be 
sufficient to allow MATPOWER to solve a case with islands, assuming the power 
balance in each island is feasible.
