Hello all,

I'm currently using MythTV (http://www.mythtv.org/) running on
7 different systems which can capture from up to 16 different rooms
simultaneously--subdivided into 2 separate systems. The main system is
comprised of a 'master backend' VM that handles the scheduling and job
assignment, and 4 'slave backends' (capture servers) that share a common
'closed-circuit cable feed' of all the classroom cameras.

A major part of what makes this manageable (with minimal staff
hours) is that we do not have to maintain the scheduling data for the classes
that are recorded. Rather, we are able to (thanks to MythTV's pedigree) import
a 'TV guide' based on the central classroom schedule every 15 minutes, and the
MythTV servers then automatically find and record the courses we mark for
podcasting (wherever or whenever they are held)--much like a Tivo's 'season
pass' function.

In testing Matterhorn, I have seen mention of the ability to
import schedule data in ical format, but the intended scope of such and import
is not clear to me: Can I import a general schedule of events that could be
selected from when scheduling a recording; or is it simply an alternate means
of entering the meta/schedule data for particular recordings?

I would appreciate it if anyone could explain (or direct me to
the documentation) regarding what the ical import function is capable of--and
how I might set it up?

Thanks.
