A short summary of yesterday's meeting, which was targeted at updating various
parties about the work underway in the domain of video annotations/comments.

UOS (Rüdiger, Martin)
Working on an annotation feature in 1.4 with the standard annotation end point;
public annotations only. Can be activated per series.
- comments on timeline
- comments in list.
- annotation on slides, activated by double-clicking
- annotation stored annotation end point (value field)
- not integrated with search (yet), but searching annotations is possible
(depending on performance)
- Looking into export option to comply with
http://www.w3.org/community/openannotation/

Greg
Thesis work on video editor will use existing annotation feature from UOS. Adds
private features.

ETH/Entwine
Working on an annotation feature for textual and (mainly) structured
annotation: Instructors provide (groups of) labels so students use these to
structure the video according to the specifications given; or students create
their own set of labels according to what they see in the video. Includes
editors for labels, Likert-scales for variables, overall more "scientific" with
an export option for annotation values to be analysed statistically. Cf.
http://entwinemedia.github.com/annotations/.
Not coupled with Matterhorn, but with any video player (player adapters exist
for HTML5 and Flash;
https://github.com/entwinemedia/annotations/wiki/Player-adapter-API).

Koemei
Tobias/Xavier, could you possibly update us with respect to the work for/by
Koemei?

Carlos (UPV) is looking for an annotation feature to enrich their HTML5 video
player "Paella"
Matjaz (JSI) is looking for a performing infrastructure to support transcripts,
translations plus crowdsourced translations (kind of annotation/comment) for
http://translectures.eu/.

Questions/issues
- searchability of annotations in conjunction with / complimentary to /
separate from existing (slide) search
- role of MPEG-7
- how to integrate search results to UI
- other parties interested in this service

Next meeting in December.
