Judy Stern commented on MH-8469:
--------------------------------
My thoughts after a quick review:
Question: Is there a reason that the options in the Export Media Hold state
are not presented in the Upload/Schedule screen instead? (Some reason the user
wouldn't know what they want when they first upload/schedule?) If not, seems
like it makes more sense in the initial upload. (To keep in mind:
Berkeley/Entwine should be working on the fix to Upload & Schedule so that
workflow is selected first, and rest of UI changes appropriately).
But assuming that it's got to be done this way:
Export Media
--Video Input Type: Does the user really need to know the Video Input Type? And
are input types limited to this choice of four?
--Video Input Type: I'd put the stuff in parens in tooltips
--Sources: Why no "Camera and Audio", "Audio only"?
--Sources: I am concerned that these terms don't match the way they're referred
to in Upload UI but I have no simple sol'n
--Output Scale: unclear what will happen aspect ratio is different (e.g. if
side-by-side screen/camera, will it be letterboxed?).
--Output Scale: get consistent about how/if you use the text "Scaled to"...at
the beginning of the line,? in the parens?...actually, I'd just get rid of
"Scaled to" as it's kind of implicit
I quickly mocked up a minor redesign @
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Export+Media+Hold+State with the
following:
--add white space above each section
--follow style used elsewhere in the UI (i.e. don't use heads for each
selection element, instead just label it)
--gstreamer Command and Temporary Output Files Paths: better if these fields
are not exposed by default since they're not needed by all users (and are
intimidating or could lead to errors if user accidentally clicks in them...you
want opening& editing these to be an intentional act)
--Use the same Continue processing & Cancel button/link as in Review/Trim hold
state
--Align all controls vertically, including the Continue Processing button, so
user can just go straight down a vertical line (yes, this is wrong on the
Review/Trim hold state currently)
Status should be:
On Hold: Waiting for user to configure export
btw, http://opencast.jira.com/browse/MH-7157 is bug you've noticed

> Here are some screenshots of the current ui. The first screen shows the drop
> down box where you choose a workflow. So "export to downloadable media" can
> be done on either files that are uploaded or on the inbox. (Ignore the new
> radio button "Archived media package", that's going away).
> The second screen shows the admin console, note that the status is "on hold"
> and that there is an action to "Configure Export"
> The third screen is technical. The top three radio groups identify different
> input parameters, sources, and output resolutions that can be dealt with. As
> these are manipulated, the actual command that is run on the server is shown
> in the text box below. This command can be modified by the admin if they
> feel knowledgeable enough to do so. The text box at the bottom is a list of
> where files will be processed on the drive. (This might not be necessary?
> Can't we just configure this in the workflow file and leave it out of the
> admin ui?)
> The fourth screen shows that the pipeline has started processing. (Bug: why
> does it say "On hold" at the beginning still?)
